Over the past two weeks I have talked briefly with my mentor and started formulating plans for designs, as well as looking for ideas as to how to format my final artifact.

Unfortunately, last week when my mentor and I were supposed to meet face to face for the first time, she got sick, and we had to postpone the meeting. We are currently trying to reschedule for this week, but this hiccup greatly impacted the depth of the work I was able to into her with this week. We spoke over the phone for about forty-five minutes, which mostly consisted of us explaining our own objectives in this project, and our backgrounds in makeup artistry.

Luckily for me, there was some relation between How To Have A Beautiful Mind and our brief conversation that I can apply to this progress report. In talking about our backgrounds in makeup, we’ve realized that though we both use makeup regularly, it’s a different experience for both of us.

On one hand, for my mentor, makeup is a regularly used product that she feels helps boost the confidence of people and make them feel in control of their appearance. As much as I agree with this statement makeup is much more a form of expression for me, than it is a control mechanism.

This isn’t truly a disagreement, but it is a differing of beliefs that partially overlap. On the other hand. We both agree on the subject of the power and potential of makeup for people’s lives. This shared belief and value should help to push us through the rest of this project as well as bringing us closer together.

That’s the majority of what we got through, and I’m looking forward to getting to know her more and work together with this fabulous woman for the rest of this project. Hopefully we will be able to reach past this blip in our progress together so that I can learn the full scope of her abilities. As of the time I’m writing this post, we are rescheduling for next week, and I’ve sent her the criminal record check. Later posts will contain more detail about our conversations and interactions, but this is all I have at the moment.

Unrelated to my mentor, the rest of my project is moving steadily forward. I’ve written down and sketched out a few designs and am already jotting down more. The next step will be improving and finalizing them, and eventually implementing them onto myself and other canvases. Additionally, I have secured multiple people who are willing to model looks for me, both friends and family and I’m elated to be working with so many of my favourite people. I am so grateful that they are willing to put their faces in my hands and let me work and I‘m hyped for it.

In the next week, I will be creating more designs and rescheduling to meet with my mentor, All in all, In-depth 2019 is moving along well.
